We invite you to become a member with us and learn more about our unique membership opportunities below.
Especially during this COVID-19 Pandemic, many students are newly considering a gap year. We’re here to offer resources and help guide you along your path to a great gap year, whether domestic, international, online, or inside, as long as it’s experiential and done to “deepen one’s Personal, Practical, and Professional Awareness”, then we want you to join our vision! Since 2012, the Gap Year Association, (formerly AGA) has led the gap year movement as the definitive authority on gap years, focusing on (1) Resources for Families & Educators; (2) Research about Gap Years; (3) Equity and Access Development for Increased Diversity on Programs; and (4) Best Practice Standards and Accreditation as the Official Standards Development Organization recognized by the US Department of Justice. We host an annual international conference, and work to produce regular publications to help students, their families, educators, and politicians to better understand how the gap year is an important solution for our country and humanity.
All members:
- Are eligible to serve on one of our committees: STANDARDS & ACCREDITATION, RESEARCH, SUSTAINABILITY, HIGHER EDUCATION, MEMBERSHIP, ALUM, INCLUSION & ACCESS.
- Are invited to submit content for review in GYA publications
- Are invited to nominate an individual for volunteer leadership positions, coordinating efforts to educate about the gap year in their State
- Are invited to nominate award winners for GYA’s annual awards: KARL HAIGLER EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH AWARD; OUTSTANDING SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS IN GAP YEAR PROGRAMMING; ADVANCING THE GAP YEAR MOVEMENT; ACCESSIBILITY FOR GAP YEAR PARTICIPATION; INNOVATION IN GAP YEAR PROGRAMMING; CORNELIUS BULL LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD; and the ALUMNI AMBASSADOR AWARD.
