You have selected the GYA Accredited Gap Year Provider membership level.

For gap year organizations applying to earn the trusted Seal of Accreditation by the Gap Year Association. Organizations must pass all required elements based on the Federally-recognized GYA Gap Year Standards.

There are many benefits to joining as a GYA Accredited Program, and we encourage you to visit the Engagement Letter for further understanding.  Since our inception we have yet to have an Accredited Member withdraw their membership for lack of value.

PREREQUISITES

APPLY

  1. Once you're logged in, navigate to the online application portal
  2. Fill out the application depending on which of the five categories relate to your programming: Philosophy & Ethics, Service-Learning, Developing Country / Backcountry, Independent Placements, Partnerships
  3. Submit your application with supporting evidence.  Evidence means evidence ... "we do this" does not count

REVIEW

  1. We will review your application within two months and return an initial assessment
  2. You review and correct issues / answer questions and re-submit using email and the assessment excel document
  3. You send the GYA survey containing ten questions to 20 of your most recent graduates that verifies you do what you say you do (orientation, pre-departure materials, etc.) ... this takes 5 minutes to complete

ADVISORS REVIEW

  1. We review and eventually bring in another set of eyes from the GYA Advisory Board
  2. Once Advisors and GYA staff agree that you have addressed all relevant standards (or offered sufficient explanation for an exemption) organization is awarded Accredited status with the GYA

APPROVAL

  1. Pay the remaining balance of you accreditation fees and earn the badge and status on our, and your, website!  Not all organizations pass, so please review the Standards before beginning the process.

FEES:

On every Accreditation year organizations are charged a flat rate of either $3,000 or $4,000 depending on their size. Accreditations are valid for 4, or 5 years at the discretion of the GYA. Newly accredited programs must submit a self-assessed review two years into their accreditation cycle to support compliance. When not on an Accreditation Review year, organizations are required to pay the Gap Year Provider Fee.  Gap year students are defined as: (1) on program a minimum of 2 months, (2) between the ages of 17-22.

0 - 50 students:

51 - 100 students:

  • Accreditation Review fee (Year 1) = $3,000
    • Nonrefundable deposit (paid now) = $1,500
  • Renewal fee (Years 2-4) = $350 per year
  • Accreditation Review fee (Year 1) = $3,000
    • Nonrefundable deposit (paid now) = $1,500
  • Renewal fee (Years 2-4) = $500 per year

101 - 200 students:

200 + students:

  • Accreditation review fee (Year 1) = $4,000
    • Nonrefundable deposit (paid now) = $1,500
  • Renewal fee (Years 2-4) = $950 per year
  • Accreditation Review fee (Year 1) = $4,000
    • Nonrefundable deposit (paid now) = $1,500
  • Renewal fee (Years 2-4) = $1,900 per year
